Chad Seeks 617.5 Million US Dollars To Address 2021 Humanitarian Needs

Chad has also launched a 2021 Humanitarian Response Plan and the Response Plan for Refugees, towards its humanitarian crisis.

The Chadian government has launched an appeal to the international community and its humanitarian partners to help it meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the country during the 2021 fiscal year.

The appeal was contained in a communique issued on Friday, June 4, 2021 during the humanitarian-development-peace forum that was held in the Chadian capital N’Djamena, coupled with the joint launching of the 2021 Humanitarian Response Plan and the Response Plan for Refugees.

According to the document, the 2021 Humanitarian Response Plan targets four million persons from among the 5.5 million persons needing urgent humanitarian aid.

This plan aims at putting in place urgent intervention mechanisms in the health, food security, protection, shelter water, education, hygiene and sanitation sectors as well as support to basic social services and the search for sustainable solutions.

“In order to realize its objectives, the 2021 Humanitarian Response Plan requires 617.5 million US dollars, which is 13 per cent more than the budget for 2020 which stood at 545.4 million US dollars,” the communique reveals.

The 13 per cent increase is due to the augmentation of the target population by 25 per cent

“Due to the spike in the consequences linked to climatic changes, “Chad has been retained among the pilot countries to benefit from the new initiative of anticipatory actions aimed at reducing the humanitarian impact of catastrophes and to protect developmental acquisitions.”

“This initiative would be put in place by humanitarian actors in collaboration with the technical services of the state in order to ensure the protection of persons exposed to risks of natural catastrophes.” the communique concludes.
