Central African Republic Authorities Arrest Former Christian Militia Leader Over War Crimes

Amigo Zibo, an associate of the former CAR head of state, Francois Bozize, has been arrested.

A former anti-Balaka Christian militia leader has been arrested by the Central African Republic authorities in the capital, Bangui.

Amigo Zibo, who is accused of complicity with the former head of state, Francois Bozize, who is now the official coordinator of the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC) was arrested on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, by agents of the Office Central de la RĂ©pression du Banditisme – Central Office of Repression of Banditry – (OCRB) while relaxing in Amical Bar situated in Benz-Vi quarter.

“He as of now is suspected of having committed offences including complicity with the CPC against the international security of the state,” a source with knowledge of the dossier told HumAngle on Thursday.

“An investigation has been opened and Mr Amigo Zibo will be presented to the state prosecutor this week.”

After his arrest, Zibo was taken to the OCRB brigade in the centre of the town where he is currently being held.

Amigo Zibo, a former anti-Balaka militia leader was the assistant to Alfred Yekatom, a former commander of the anti-Balaka Christian militia group who is currently being held at the international criminal court in The Hague for crimes against humanity and war crimes.

Zibo, who has been serving as a bodyguard to the President Director General of Hotel Leger, Zeyad Al Zarzour, has been mentioned in a number of criminal matters implicating the Hotel Ledger boss, notably the attack and destruction of the Libyan embassy, the deportation of Libyan diplomats from the Central African Republic, and the escape from custody of Amadou Danzoumi Yalo, a former agent of the OCRB on Friday, Feb. 26, 2021.

One of the bodyguards of Zeyad Al Zarzour, a soldier identified as Ezechiel, had been arrested and detained about two months ago in connection with the evasion of Amadou Danzoumi Yalo.

However, Ezechiel has been insisting on his innocence and has, in turn, accused Zeyad Al Zarzour and Amigo Zibo of having had a role in the escape of Amadou Danzoumi Yalo alias Colonel Daz.
