Boko Haram Video Shows Seized Tank, Ammunition In Sambisa

Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād (Boko Haram) on Saturday released a video showing a battle tank, shells and thousands of ammunition the terror group claimed it captured in Sambisa Forest, Borno State.

A member of the group appeared in the 4.15 minutes video speaking on the battle between the insurgents and the Nigerian Army in the dreaded Sambisa forest on Friday.

The video was the first indication that Nigerian troops were conducting an offensive targeting the Abubakar Shekau-led Boko Haram faction in Sambisa, the epicentre of insurgency in Northeast Nigeria.

This is happening at a time troops participating in the recently launched Operation Tura Takai Bango are targeting ISWAP positions in the Alagarno forest – Timbuktu triangle axis.

Since 2009, Boko Haram and its splinter faction Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have engaged in a campaign of violence that has led to over 30,000 deaths and displacement of 2.5 million people across the Lake Chad Basin.
