Boko Haram Killed 1,606 People In 11 Months – Report

At least 1,606 people were killed in the 125 fatal incidents, an average of 13 per incident says SB Morgen (SBM) Intelligence in a report published on Monday.

SB Morgen in a Twitter post titled “Chart of the week: Boko Haram fatalities in 2020” presented a map distribution of Boko Haram attacks and fatalities.

The report added that between the start of January and the end of November 2020, there were a total of 142 incidents in the insurgency in Nigeria’s Northeast, an average of 13 a month.

In November, Boko Haram killed an estimated 78 farmers working in rice fields close to Zabarmari community in Jere Local Government of Borno State.

The killings drew calls for the government to step up protection for the civilians against Boko Haram attacks.

Since 2009, Boko Haram and it’s splinter faction Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) violence in Northeastern Nigeria has led to over 30,000 deaths and displacement of 2.5 million people across the Lake Chad Basin.

A recent United Nation Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs  (UNOCHA)  report shared by HumAngle says that the protracted crisis in the Lake Chad Basin has left 12.5 million people in need of humanitarian assistance.
