As cases of insecurity continue to rise in Oyo State, Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, has announced the arrest of 10 suspects in various parts of the state during the festive season.
Olayinka Olayanjo, a retired Colonel and Commandant of the security outfit who announced the arrest of the suspects said they have been transferred to various police divisions in the state for proper investigation and prosecution.
Giving a breakdown, Olayanjo said four of the suspects were arrested in Oyo town for allegedly mounting roadblocks, three while were arrested at Ibadan North West Local Government Area for robbery.
The remaining three suspects were arrested at Odo Ona Kekere, Olomi and Ido areas of Ibadan, the state capital, he added.
In the same vein, officers of Amotekun have chased some herdsmen away from two forests in the state.
The operation to chase away the herdsmen from the two forests, Opara Forest Reserve and the Oyo State Agricultural Development Programme Forest, was carried out in collaboration with some hunters.
In a statement made available to newsmen by Mrs. Ayolola Adedoja, its Information Officer, the security network’s Chairman, Kunle Toogun, a retired General alleged that the herdsmen came into the state on the request of some unnamed traditional rulers.
“They were able to flush the herdsmen out of the forest reserve around 2 am. The Amotekun Corps, with the assistance of one Prophet Ojoawo, who is the head of the hunters in the state, with 40 hunters drove out the herdsmen out of the forest reserve and they were escorted out of Saki West to the Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State,” Toogun said.
“The herdsmen were handed over to the Amotekun Corps members at Orelope who also led them out of their territory and handed them to their members at Olorunsogo in Igbeti area. The Amotekun corps at Igbeti made sure they were escorted out of the Oyo State boundary.”
“Also, another set of the herdsmen were sighted at OYSADEP Forest Reserves. They too produced evidence of invitation by one of the Oyo Obas and they too were also driven out of the forest and of the state boundary.”
