The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission, has widened investigation on the Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Ali Baba Fagge accused of shortchanging Islamic clerics who participated in a prayer session against COVID-19.
The Chairman of the Commission, Mr Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado made the development known to newsmen in Kano on the matte on Wednesday..
The agency last week quizzed Fagge and his son, Huzaifa Ali Baba, and three others over complaints that they shortchanged Islamic clerics whom the Kano State government invited to conduct prayers against COVID-19.
The suspects were accused of pocketing N45,000 each for 360 clerics who participated in the exercise. Instead of receiving the full payment of N50,000, some clerics said they got N5,000 each.
Rimin Gado said the commission would prosecute those involved to ensure justice was done.
‘’It’s funny that I was quoted out of context, because basically, the commission has conducted so many investigations, recovered multi-million naira assets without prosecution. .
‘’So what I am saying categorically is if at the end of the investigation of Ali Baba Fagge, he is found to be very culpable, we would surely take him or whoever is involved to court,’ the chairman said.’
He said, “During the investigation, we have discovered that not as people were saying that Fagge carted away millions of naira.
“The investigation revealed that the suspect was giving N50,000 each for 10 people, but along the way, some of them were forced to return part of the money.
“I want to assure you that we have recovered N310,000, and we have returned the money to the affected people.
