50 Persons Rush To Hospital After Eating Food At Community Meeting

No fewer than 50 persons rushed to hospitals in Rimaye village of Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State, northwestern Nigeria, after eating suspected poised food served at a community meeting on Sunday.

HumAngle learnt that the incident occurred around 5p.m. at the village Islamic school behind Rimaye Model Primary school, where Rimaye Solidarity Forum intended to assist less privileged persons in the community.

A member of the community, Salim Ishaq told HumAngle, “we prepared food for an event meant to be distributed as livelihood support to the less privileged in our community.

“But it later changed to a prayer session against the bandits kidnapping in the community.

“The organisation invited Islamic scholars for prayers for the quick release of their community members for and God’s intervention in the village over frequent bandits’ attacks.

“We heard a story at the early hours of Sunday that the group kidnapped one of our influential community members and also a former local government chairman in the person of Hamisu Abu Sukuntuni, ” a resident, Abu, added.

HumAngle learnt that the organization contracted one Aisha Sadi, popularly known as Momi, to take care of food for the occasion.

“We noticed the outbreak of the disease after we shared the food at the prayer session then later found out that so many people were taken to the hospital as result of the food they ate at the event,” a source said.

Abu said the chef had acknowledged that the meat in the food might have been contaminated.

HumAngle learnt that a sample of the food has been taken to a laboratory for a test.
