2 ADF Rebels, 1 DR Congo Soldier Die In Armed Clashes

Allied Democratic Forces rebels in DR Congo have been killed in a new clash between them and DR Congo soldiers. The fresh attack saw one soldier die.

At least two members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a rebel group in DR Congo, were killed on Monday night in clashes with soldiers of the Congolese army in the village of Masambo in the Rowenzori sector of Beni territory in North Kivu province.

According to Anthony Mualushayi,  a Lieutenant and the spokesperson of the Sokola 1 operations, the two ADF fighters were killed when the rebels attacked a patrol of the 330th regiment of the Congolese army based in Masambo. Two other rebels were seriously wounded, Mualushayi said.

“Calm has returned to the zone this morning of Tuesday, April 13. The soldiers of the DR Congo army are in control of the situation and they continue the pursuit of the enemy combatants,” the army spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, in a related development, a coalition of Gumino-Twigwaneho terrorists Saturday, April 10, attacked the staff headquarters of the DR Congo army in Minembwe within the territory of Fizi. One soldier was killed in the resultant confrontation.

The attack was aimed at a position held by the 12th Rapid Reaction Brigade in Minembwe Centre. The same coalition had on Friday, April 9, attacked another position of the Congolese army in the village of Rutiga.

“After the attack by Gumino and Twigwaneho against our position in Rutiga on April 9, our 12th Rapid Reaction Brigade was also the target of an attack by these militiamen on the night of April 10. In the course of this nocturnal attack, a soldier of the DR Congo army fell in the field of honour. As with all other attacks carried out by them, that of Saturday on Minembwe was also repulsed,” said Dieudonne Kasereka, the spokesperson of Sokola Operation in South Kivu.
