15 Trucks Arrive CAR With Supplies From Cameroon

15 trucks carrying supplies for the Central African Republic, CAR, have arrived at Bangui from Cameroon with a heavy escort.

After spending more than two months in Garoua-Boulai, Cameroon, 15 trucks bringing supplies from Cameroon to Bangui, the Central African Republic’s capital have arrived.

Abakar, one of the 15 drivers who succeeded in reaching  Bangui on Tuesday, was very excited when he called on the phone to announce their safe arrival.

“When we arrived here, we called our colleagues who remained behind in Cameroon and told them that we had arrived and to reassure them of the security situation. Immediately they received the good news, they also took off and are on their way here,” Abakar told HumAngle by phone from Bangui on Wednesday.

“The kind of escort that led us here is very reassuring. There is nothing to fear. I am going to offload and reload and then be on my way back to Cameroon,” Abakar said.

The driver and 14 others were escorted from Garoua-Boulai in Cameroon to  Bangui by soldiers of the CAR army and Russian mercenaries.

“I appreciate the quality of the escort I saw. There is even a helicopter giving aerial support and also escort motorbikes. It is very reassuring,” the truck driver said.

The excited truck driver revealed that the 600-kilometre journey took them only two days against the usual length of time.

“In the past, it took us three or four days to arrive in Bangui from Garoua-Boulai. However, thanks to the escort, it took us just two days this time around. We are with the Russian allies who escorted us right from Garoua-Boulai.”

Another convoy from the over 1000  trucks blocked in Garoua-Boulai has since left Cameroon and is on its way to the CAR capital.

However, a spokesperson of the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC) rebel group Wednesday threatened to block the corridor once again after an incident near Baboua in a locality situated between the Cameroon border and the town of Bouar on the supply corridor.
