Terror Groups Kill 14 Persons In Two Separate Attacks In North-central Nigeria

The Plateau State Police Command said it received a report that 10 persons were killed in a drinking joint.

Fourteen persons have been killed in two separate attacks in Sabon Layi village, Kuru community, Jos South Local Government Area, and in Zogu village, Miango community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, North-central Nigeria by an armed group.

According to a Punch report, 12 persons were killed in Sabon Layi village, while the other two were killed in Zogu village.

Villagers said the attacks occurred on Sunday night when they were sleeping.

The report stated that the incident was confirmed by Fom Gwattson, the lawmaker representing Jos South Local Government Area in the Plateau State House of Assembly, who lamented over the killing of 12 persons in Kuru community.

“Some gunmen last night attacked my constituency and killed twelve persons in Sabon Layi community. I have just been informed of the development and this is completely unacceptable,” Gwattson said.

Also confirming the attack that left two persons dead in Zogu Village, Ezekiel Bini, the National President of the Irigwe Development Association, also revealed that two victims were injured during the attack by the armed group.

“Two persons died during the attack last night, while the two injured were rushed to Jos University Teaching Hospital, and one later moved to Miango hospital for further treatment. It’s unfortunate that we have continued to bury our people on every attack by gunmen without anything being done to stop the killings by the authorities,” Bini lamented.

He, however, added that the murders had been reported to the security agents.

Gabriel Ubah, the state police Public Relations Officer when contacted, told HumAngle that only 10 persons were killed in the Jos South attack.

“We had an incident in Jos South LGA. 10 persons, unfortunately, lost their lives but I am yet to get reports on the attack in Bassa.”

“The Plateau State Police Command received a report that 10 persons were shot dead in a drinking joint at Sabon Layi, Kuru in Jos South LGA by yet to be identified gunmen who drove in with a Hilux and shot sporadically.”

“Personnel of the Command and the military have been deployed in the affected area.”

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered an immediate and full scale investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and to bring the perpetrators of that dastardly act to book.”
