#COVID19: Gabon Creates Vaccination Card For Citizens
The vaccination passport will help vaccinated Gabon citizens to travel easily across the country and the world.
Gabon’s National Vaccination Committee Against the COVID-19 on Monday July 26, announced the institution of a vaccination card.
According to the national vaccination committee, the card, which it says could be called a vaccination certificate or sanitary passport, is intended to permit its holders to move freely in the country and to travel abroad.
The new card replaces the hitherto provisional vaccination attestation that was issued to persons who had received the COVID-19 vaccines and is issued at all 24 vaccination centres in Gabon.
The operation of the delivery of the secured vaccination cards is part of the National Vaccination Plan Against the COVID-19 and concerns all persons who have received the two doses of the Chinese SINOPHARM vaccine between March, April, and May 2021.
The card contains a QR code that contains information about the item to which it is attached. In the case of the Gabon COVID-19 vaccination card, the code contains precise information as to whether the person has been vaccinated against the COVID-19 and also indicates if the holder had been contaminated by the SARS-CoV-2 and if the person had developed anticorps.
The national vaccination campaign that was launched in Gabon in March this year has as of July 24, 2021 seen the vaccination of 57,149 persons receiving the first dose of the vaccine. A total 45,698 of the recipients are males while 11,451 are females.
Thirty-nine thousand, two hundred and ninety-seven persons have already received the second dose of the vaccine in the country, a figure perceived as below the projected objective of vaccinating 500,000 persons set by the National Committee for Vaccination Against the Covid-19.
The committee has reiterated that COVID-19 vaccination is voluntary and is only done with the consent of the individual.
